Panel Wind Loading per UBC:

This application utilizes wind loading calculations per the UBC. It can be used to calculate the uplift at the center of a panel for both corner and field situations.

The following data sources are used by this calculator:

  • Buildings under 60' in height : IBC_2003
  • Buildings between 60' and 400' in height: UBC_97
  • Buildings over 400' in height: Data not available.

This Calculator will not function for roof heights over 400'.

The calculator takes the following variables:

  1. Exposure Category: The wind exposure category per the contract documents. (Typically found on the structural drawings.)
  2. Wind Speed: The maximum expected 3 second gust of wind in mph as found on the contract documents (Typically found on the structural drawings).
  3. Average Roof Height: The average height of all roofs. Calculator works under 60' only.
  4. Importance Factor: The importance factor as found on the contract documents (Typically found on the structural drawings).

The calculator outputs the following information:

  1. Exposure Category: Your selected exposure category.
  2. Wind Speed: The wind speed you entered.
  3. Average Roof Height: The average roof height you entered. Calculator works under 60' only.
  4. Importance Factor: The importance factor you entered.
  5. Height Factor:  Factor for height and exposure per UBC table 1609.6.2.1(4).
  6. Wind Speed Factor: Wind Speed²/90².
  7. p30net Center: Data from UBC table 1609.6.2.1(2).
  8. p30net Corner: Data from UBC table 1609.6.2.1(2).
  9. pNet Center: Calculated net uplift pressure at panel center.
  10. pNet Corner: Calculated net uplift pressure at panel corner.
